How To Create Your First Spotify Canvas Video with Tuneform

This guide will show you how to use Tuneform to create a Spotify Canvas Video. The process is very fast (only takes a couple minutes), and can be done through any browser.

Step 1: Create Tuneform Account

In order to get started, you'll need a Tuneform account, so first sign up, or log back in. Then navigate to the Spotify Canvas Browse Page to view all the video styles available to you.

Spotify Canvas videos are a unique type of music visualizer in that there's no audio attached to the video file itself. Spotify streams both your audio file and video file separately when listeners are watching, so this isn't the type of visual that can be synced and react to your music (as opposed to audio reactive visuals). On Spotify, the video itself will loop continuously until a new track is selected, even if you pause the audio track.

This means we can create our video with only visual inputs. For this guide, we'll just use a single square dimension image, as this is something everyone releasing music will have due to being a required piece of media for every release on Spotify (as well as other streaming platforms).

Step 2: Select A Style

There are a wealth of different options available if you want to use something other than classic square artwork. We have options to use transparent logos, full screen vertical background images, and even circular turntable or art cassette styles.

But for your first video, starting with the artwork you already have is a great way to get up and running fast. For this example, we'll look for a style with the "Album Art" descriptor as they take, at minimum, a single square image.

For this guide, we'll select the following: Album Art Color Palette Particles Climbing Right. Navigate to this style on the browse page, and click "Select Style".

This will take us a dedicated page where you can add inputs to create the video itself. Also featured on this page is a brief text description of the style, multiple demo frames that you can look through, a full video demo, as well as links to similar styles and variants.

Step 3: Add Input Images & Customize

If you scroll beneath the style's example images, you'll see the inputs for your images, along with a "start render" button. In the particular template we've selected, there's only one input you need to worry about: your album art.

Simply select the image you want to use here. If you've never used Tuneform before, you'll have to select it from your computer or mobile device. However, if you've used Tuneform to create other visualizers in the past, you will be able to select compatible images from your account.

In the event you choose an image that doesn't have the required dimensions for the video, you'll be able to adjust the image itself before rendering. If this is the case for you, an indicator message will appear under your input, prompting you to adjust your image. Here, you'll be able to scale, crop, and/or reposition your image to your liking. Once you have it how you want it, click "Save Adjustments" and the adjustment modal will close, and you'll see a preview of your modified image below.

Step 4: Render & Download

And that's all the configuration we have to do. Now hit "Start Render" and sit back as your video is created for you. But don't go far, because our rendering system will have your video ready for you in a minute or less! Once the render is complete, you'll be prompted to its dedicated page in the "My Media" section of your Tuneform account. Here is where you'll be able to manage the video and any others you've created, including previewing and downloading it.

And that's it! You've created your first Spotify Canvas video, and can now upload it to Spotify to display along your music (for more on how to do that, see this article here: https://blog.tuneform.com/how-to-upload-your-new-canvas-video-onto-spotify).
